Preparing for a Repurposed Film

Before showing any film to a class,

Preview the film and review the design of the instruction to make sure that the science content is appropriate and that the method of presentation is appropriate for the viewing audience.

When showing the repurposed film, the instructor should ensure that the experience becomes an active experience through labs, discussion, or some other form of interaction.

When an instructor shows a film in class he/she should allot some time for discussion or for pointing out relevant points during the film.

Most films are longer than a class period; even a short film or television episode would most likely take up at least a whole standard class period to show. Instructors may want to show films at special times to allow students to view the film in its entirety, or they may wish to show certain portions of a film each class and have discussion or some other activity with the film for each day.
